Speaking on the sidelines of the Portfolio Adviser, Fund Awards, Gutteridge said: “While we do feel we are in a consensus trade being overweight equities, there is not that euphoria certainly not in equity valuations at large that makes us feel like the rug is going to be pulled out from under us by some event. We don’t feel like we are part of a late-90s consensus about the tech trade for example.”

Asked about the continued increase in volatility levels, he said that one should view them more as a return to normal levels, rather than a departure from the norm and added that one shouldn’t necessarily be afraid of sell-offs, “they can breathe new life into markets, they can attract more capital and actually extend a bull market, rather than be the death knell.”
