Set to arrive at the firm “later in the summer”, Nichols will take up a portfolio manager berth on Columbia Threadneedle’s European equities team, with his fund responsibilities yet to be decided.
Nichols joins from a director and fund manager position in F&C Investment’s European equities division, where he was lead manager on the firm’s European Growth & Income vehicle.
An F&C spokesperson confirmed that upon Nichols’ departure his responsibilities will be taken on by the firm’s head of European equities David Moss.
Philip Dicken, Columbia Threadneedle’s head of European equities, cited the ongoing recovery of the European market as a key influence over the decision to appoint Nichols.
“The European economy is on a strong path to recovery,” he said. “This has translated into positive momentum in the stock market – yesterday’s bears have become today’s bulls.
“We are pleased to welcome Mark to the European equities team and to expand our capabilities in this area.”
