Chelverton Asset Management has added an assistant fund manager to the UK Equity Growth fund as part of a plan to invest in the “next generation of fund managers”.

Henry Botting will work alongside existing managers James Baker and Edward Booth on the £1.6bn small and mid-cap strategy.

Botting (pictured) joins from institutional stockbroker and investment banking group Finncap where he worked in institutional equity sales, advising asset managers and hedge funds. Before that he was an equity analyst and assistant fund manager at OLIM.

He started his investment career in 2014 with Rathbones as an assistant fund manager on a team managing about £1bn on behalf of trusts, charities and private clients.

Baker said: “We are delighted to have secured Henry’s services. His relevant analytical experience helps to deepen our resource. His appointment follows a significant period of growth for the fund and forms part of our longer-term plan to invest in the next generation of fund managers at Chelverton.”

According to Trustnet, the MI Chelverton UK Equity Growth fund is top quartile over one, three and five years. It has returned 61.6%, 76.9% and 189.8% over these periods, respectively, compared with the IA UK All Companies sector’s 32.2%, 12.2% and 41.4%.
