The legal action centres on any losses that may have occurred from client money following the staff at Brewin Dolphin when they left to join Chalres Stanley.

Charles Stanley confirmed that a High Court claim was issued against it by Brewin Dolphin relating to the recruitment of a number of individuals who joined to establish its Leicester office.

These claims will be “vigorously resisted”, the firm said.

Brewin Dolphin’s head of investment management, Stephen Ford, commented:

“As you would expect we will act to protect our business and our clients’ interests, which are paramount and where we have been advised that contractual obligations have been broken.”

He added that Brewin Dolphin was not prepared to make any further comment while the matter is subject to court proceedings.
