Charles Stanley has nabbed a senior hire from Brewin Dolphin as it looks to build up its Leeds-based investment team.

Martin Tyson (pictured) has joined the FTSE 250 wealth manager as an investment director. He comes from Brewin Dolphin where he worked for 17 years as a divisional director in its Leeds office, heading up a team of six.

Commenting on the appointment Charles Stanley Leeds branch manager Simon Martin noted Tyson’s 22-years of experience and “strong local connections”.

“Building our investment management team is a key part of our continuing expansion,” Martin said.

“Following our acquisition of Myddleton Croft last year, Martin will be a valuable addition to the team to help us to continue to grow our presence in Leeds and Yorkshire.”

Tyson said he was pleased to be joining Charles Stanley “at such an exciting time in its transformation”.

“The Leeds office is growing, and the overall business has a clear strategy that is delivering, as evidenced by its latest set of results.  The current environment in which we are operating means that there is a growing need for trusted advice, as clients are looking for help in navigating these tricky times and to capitalise on emerging opportunities, bringing the value that myself and my new colleagues at Charles Stanley offer to the fore.”

Charles Stanley revealed it had shed £4bn worth of assets last year after the impact from the coronavirus sell-off in its final quarter. Despite this it saw profits jump 57.3% to £17.3m and revenues grow 11.5% to £173m.

In April the wealth manager appointed Henry Gronning from WH Ireland as an investment manager in its Bath office.
