Meanwhile LeggMason subsidiary Western Asset Management has hired Gordon Brown from Baillie Gifford and Chia-Liang Lian from Pimco.

Brown, who worked as a senior investment manager specialising in emerging market rates and currencies at Baillie Gifford, is to be based in Western AM’s London office. He will be responsible for global mandates as well as providing specialist input on Eastern European debt markets. Prior to joining Baillie Gifford in 2001, he was head of global fixed income for State Street.

Lian, previously head of emerging Asia portfolio management at Pimco, will be based in Western AM’s Singapore office where he will oversee the local team responsible for Asian debt. Before his stints in asset management, Lian spent some four years at the Monetary Authority of Singapore as a senior economist responsible for formulating exchange rate policy.
