Old Mutual Global Investors’ CEO Richard Buxton believes the UK is unlikely to be a fertile stockpickers’ market in 2017, while admitting he would be encouraged to see a 10% equities correction.

From a top-down perspective, Buxton warned the UK could see gradual deceleration next year, though it is unlikely to fall into recession.

Inflationary forces could surprise on the upside as the economy reaches full employment, though he believes Mark Carney is “facing 180 degrees in the wrong direction” with the Bank of England unlikely to follow the Fed in raising interest rates anytime soon.
