Chris Butler is the latest fund manager to leave Martin Currie, retiring after 22 years service.

Butler is currently director, natural resources, and co-manager of the global resources mandates including the $181m Luxembourg-domiciled Martin Currie GF – Global Resources Fund and the $47m Ucits-compliant long/short Global Resources Absolute Alpha Fund. He also manages the $47m Martin Currie Global Resources Absolute Return Fund, domiciled in Bermuda.

From 1 December, these funds will be run by Duncan Goodwin and Ruairidh Stewart, who was named as manager alongside Butler and Goodwin earlier this year, although Butler is not due to leave Martin Currie until the end of December when he will spend more time on other interests including his family’s publishing business.

As well as the problems Martin Currie had earlier this year that led to China manager Chris Ruffle departing, co-manager of the firm’s Pan European Opportunities Fund, Eric Woehrling, departed in Septemberm while global portfolio0 manager, Neil Robson, started at Threadneedle in November.
