Wealth management firm Brown Shipley has nabbed Santader Asset Management’s head of multi strategy solutions to become its new chief investment officer on the departure of Don Smith.
Toby Vaughan (pictured) joins the firm in October. In September, Smith will leave to pursue other career opportunities, Brown Shipley said in a statement.
Vaughan is the first appointment under Mathewson, who joined Brown Shipley in April from Santander UK where he was managing director of wealth management and private banking.
Vaughan joins a team of 50 investment specialists within the research and asset management business. At Santander Asset Management he was responsible for over £14bn in assets, including multi-asset risk-profiled and outcome-focused portfolios.
Brown Shipley’s assets under management are almost half that level totalling £7.8bn at 30 June.
Santander nabbed Vaughan from LV Asset Management in 2011, along with his colleague Tom Caddick. He started his career in 2001 at F&C Asset Management.
Mathewson replaced Ian Sackfield, who announced his planned departure in March. Sackfield remains client director at the firm.
