Smith steps up from deputy CIO, whilst Brandreth has been a senior fund manager and head of structured products. The appointments will take effect from 1st April 2016.

Smith joined Brown Shipley in October 2015 as deputy CIO, following a long career with ICAP. Brandreth joined Brown Shipley in 2010 as a research analyst.

As announced in February, the new appointments follow the departure of CIO Kevin Doran, who is joining parent company KBL European Private Bankers in the newly created role of group head of research and strategy.

Smith and Brandreth will continue to work closely with Doran in his role with the parent company.

“The investment team has made fantastic strides over recent years, particularly in developing innovative approaches to investment, resulting in a solid track record of delivering risk adjusted performance,” said Ian Sackfield, CEO of Brown Shipley. “With these solid foundations, I am confident that under Don’s leadership and with the support of Alex, the wider team at Brown Shipley, as well as the KBL network, we will continue to provide a first class service for all our clients.”

“I’m delighted to take the baton from Kevin Doran at what is a very exciting time for the business,” added Smith. “Whilst we remain committed to our core investment approach that has stood us in good stead for many years, the support from the Group wide research platform led by Kevin gives Brown Shipley the potential to deliver a genuinely unique offer in the UK marketplace.”

Brown Shipley has offices in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Manchester and Nottingham.
