Ben Palmer has left his role as head of responsible investment at Brooks Macdonald, landing in LGT Wealth Management’s Intermediary Investment Services team.

Palmer (pictured) joins as lead portfolio manager, and is responsible for the wealth manager’s Sustainable Model Portfolio Service (SMPS), as well as the Verus sustainable multi-asset fund.

Brooks announced Palmer’s departure in January, adding that he was leaving in March to pursue new opportunities.

Palmer began his career as a trainee investment manager at Brooks in 2011, rising through the ranks to become head of responsible investment in August 2020.

Regarding his new appointment, Palmer said: “The unique ownership structure of LGT has enabled significant strides both operationally and in their approach to investing, which is particularly inspiring and I am delighted to be part of a forward-looking firm.”

Palmer reports to Phoebe Stone, head of Intermediary Investment Services. She added: “As advisers become increasingly aware of the risk mitigation that sustainable portfolios can provide to their clients, alongside the investment opportunities presented when assessing long-term trends, we are seeing heightened interest in our sustainable portfolios.

“We are growing rapidly to meet this demand, and Ben’s addition to the team with his strong experience in sustainable and responsible investing will further enhance our sustainable investment proposition.”

LGT recently acquired Abrdn’s discretionary fund management business in a deal worth around £140m.
