Cromwell, who sits as a cross-bench peer in the House of Lords, was a private banker with Barclays for eight years but will join wealth manager Brewin Dolphin as divisional director, based in London.

He will be responsible for client relationships, advising on strategic initiatives and supporting emerging talent at the firm.

David Nichol, chief executive at Brewin Dolphin, said: “We are delighted that Godfrey has joined us. No doubt his focus on clients will help us continue our organic growth strategy and momentum in our discretionary funds business. His decades of experience in the international business community, plus his last eight years as a very successful private banker, mean that he will further strengthen an already strong team.”

Cromwell will maintain his role in the House of Lords as well as his role as the chief executive of the British East-West Centre.

His appointment follows the announcements in Autumn 2016 that two former JP Morgan staffers, Laura Robins and Patrick Lance, have joined as divisional directors.
