BNY Mellon Investment Management has made changes to its UK sales team to address the growing wealth management and private banking sector.

The firm has hired Coupland Cardiff Asset Management’s Nick Thiem (pictured) as head of UK wealth managers and private banks, and Adam Lomas as an investment sales manager.

Thiem replaces Hugo Wheeler who left BNY Mellon IM in September to join Muzinich and Co as head of UK wholesale.

In his new role, Thiem, who was head of UK distribution at Coupland Cardiff, will offer clients products from BNY Mellon’s underlying boutique asset managers, including Insight Investment, Newton Investment Management, Walter Scott & Partners, Alcentra and BNY Mellon IM’s US multi-asset firm. He will also support BNY Mellon IM’s wider distribution strategy for global financial institutions.

Before working at Coupland Cardiff, Thiem held senior roles at Standard Life Aberdeen, Scottish Widows Investment Partnership and Gartmore Investment Management (now Janus Henderson).

Fergus McCarthy, head of UK and Ireland intermediary distribution at BNY Mellon IM, said: “Nick’s appointment underpins our commitment to the wealth management and private banking segment where we continue to see many opportunities for growth.

“With his extensive expertise and knowledge, he is a strong addition to the team and will play an integral role in driving forward our ambitions in this area.”

Lomas will be responsible for sales across the South East and London. He joins from Franklin Templeton where he worked in business development.

The firm has also expanded its strategic partnerships team with Amy Henderson and Ryan Grey, who previously worked at Jupiter Asset Management and BNY Mellon IM’s UK client services team, respectively.
