BMO Global Asset Management has added a new co-head to its emerging markets debt team.
Valentina Chen (pictured) will lead the team alongside current boss Jonathan Mann. Mann had been the sole head of the emerging markets debt team since joining the fund group, then called F&C Asset Management, in 2005.
In her new role Chen will focus on local currency investments across emerging markets with a view to strengthening BMO Gam’s product range over the medium-term, a press release announcing her appointment said.
She has over 14 years’ experience on the emerging market debt side, having worked as Aviva Investors head of emerging markets local currency debt and most recently running emerging markets local currency and emerging market blend strategies for Bank Vontobel in Zurich.
Chen will be based in BMO Gam’s London office where she will report into head of fixed income Janelle Woodward.
Woodward said Chen’s appointment reflects the rising opportunities the asset manager sees in emerging markets.
“Valentina’s extensive knowledge and passion for the sector will be a great asset to our team,” she added.
