In a memo, Bloomberg editor in chief John Micklethwait announced Flanders will join the London office in October leading a newly-created team of 120 economists and journalists.

Flanders, a former BBC economics editor, joined JP Morgan in 2013 but said she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to join the Bloomberg team.

She said: “I’ve learned a huge amount at JPMorgan. But I’ve always wanted not just to understand the global economy, but to explain it to others.

“When Bloomberg’s editor in chief asks you to help build and lead the most powerful engine of economic analysis and reporting in the world, you don’t say no.”

Flanders, who has also been a trusted member of Portfolio Adviser‘s investment panel for the past four years, held roles at the London Business School and the Institute of Fiscal Studies.

Her journalism career saw her report for the Financial Times, New York Times and was also recruited by Larry Summers to the US Treasury.
