Blackrock’s Tony Stenning becomes CEO of derivatives specialist Catley Lakeman

Firm also hires another Blackrock alumni as head of distribution for subsidiary Atlantic House Investments

Former head of UK retail at Blackrock, Tony Stenning, has been appointed chief executive of derivatives specialist Catley Lakeman to diversify its intermediary client base.

Stenning (pictured), who is also ex-CEO of Blackrock Fund Managers, first joined Catley Lakeman as a non-executive director in October last year.

Catley Lakeman, founded in 2008, is a provider of structured products to the institutional market. It is the parent company of structured products specialist Atlantic House Investments, and investment boutique and consultant Albemarle Street Partners.

Stenning has almost 30 years of investment experience, including 16 years with Blackrock where he sat on several senior committees. He is also non-executive chairman of The Investing and Saving Alliance (TISA) and Link Fund Solutions.

He told Portfolio Adviser: “The firm has established a strong franchise with wealth managers and we are looking forward to helping the firm build on these strong foundations and diversify its clients across the broader intermediary universe.”

Stenning has replaced Catley Lakeman founder Russell Catley who has moved to a business development role focused on growing the business and developing partnerships.

Catley said: “I have known Tony for many years and he is widely acknowledged as a leader and innovator in our industry.”

Catley Lakeman also announced the hire of Dorian Hughes as head of distribution at sister company Atlantic House. Hughes joins from Blackrock where he worked from 1986 until 2019, most recently as head of regional wealth. He worked with Stenning at Blackrock for more than 20 years.

Stenning said: “I am delighted to welcome Dorian to the CLM team and I know first-hand how much value his in depth experience of the UK wealth market can create, having had the pleasure of working with him for many years at Blackrock.”
