Goldberg joins from HSBC where he had headed up emerging market research since 2010.
Prior to that Goldberg held the positions of head of emerging market debt strategy and chief economist for Latin America at Merrill Lynch.
Goldberg will be reporting to Sergio Trigo Paz, head of emerging market debt.
BlackRock said the appointment is part of its commitment to growing and investing in its emerging markets business. It added that Goldberg’s experience and market knowledge will strengthen and complement its emerging market investor group.
