BlackRock topped both the gross and net retail sales tables for the year, according to the latest issue of The Pridham Report

Transactions amounting to £9.9bn and £3.9bn in the gross and retail categories put BlackRock ahead of nearest competitors M&G and Woodford Investment Management.

In the gross sales table there was a gap of almost £1bn between second-placed M&G’s £9.1bn for the year and Invesco Perpetual in third with £8.2bn. Occupying fourth and fifth were Standard Life Investments and Schroders on £7.4bn and £7.2bn respectively.

Woodford Investment Management was a little more than £100m from reaching the summit of the retail sales table on £3.8bn, while Henderson Group and Standard Life made third and fourth places with £2.64bn and £2.61bn respectively. Artemis completed the top five with £2.1bn in net retail sales.

BlackRock also took pole position in gross retail sales for the final quarter of 2014, with the firm’s £2.5bn flows representing 26.05% of its total for the year. However, Woodford edged ahead with Q4 net retail sales of £1.1bn, pipping BlackRock by less than £96m.

M&G took second in gross sales with £2bn, while Standard Life, Invesco and Fidelity followed on £1.9bn, £1.6bn and £1.4bn respectively.

In the net retail table for Q4 2014, third-placed Standard Life recorded sales of £769.2m, while Artemis and Old Mutual Global Investors rounded off the top five on £682m and £668m respectively.

Despite undergoing a 25% drop on the 2013 figures, equity funds were the top net sellers in 2014, with UK equity income being the most popular. Property funds experienced a significant 150% upward shift in net retail sales on 2013, hitting a record £3.8bn.
