Levy has been an investment manager at AllianceBernstein since 1998 and most recently he led the regional portfolio management on EMEA markets, contributing to the management of international and emerging equity portfolios.
In his newly-created role at Barings Levy will report to Ghadir Abu Leil-Cooper, head of the EMEA equity team, which runs £2.9bn in AUM across the Baring Eastern European Fund, the Baring Russia Fund and the Baring Mena Fund, as well as in segregated mandates (as at 31 May).
Leil-Cooper, said: "We believe there is a compelling long-term investment case for the EMEA region driven by attractive fundamentals. The region is supported by favourable demographics (a young and growing population and an increasing middle class) forming a strong and underleveraged consumer base and relatively low levels of government debt compared to developed countries."
Levy also has experience managing frontier equity portfolios with a focus on Africa and has worked as an analyst for Alliance Capital Management.
For his new role with Barings, Levy will be based in London.
