Barings has brought in William Palmer, formerly at KBC Asset Management, as investment director of its Global Emerging Markets equities team.

Palmer has joined Barings from KBC Asset Management where he was senior asset manager and head of Asia ex-Japan equities.

During his tenure at KBC he was responsible for the management of approximately €1bn within institutional and retail funds across a spectrum of regions and themes.

He will be reporting to Roberto Lampl, head of global emerging markets, who said: "Emerging markets are a core focus for our business and his [William’s] deep investment expertise in Asian equity markets and ability to analyse and assess Asia within a broader global context will contribute strongly to our GEMs strategy."

The Baring Global Emerging Markets fund has $1.7bn assets under management.
