Lindfeldt will lead and manage the global emerging markets (GEM) equities team and will be lead portfolio manager on several of the GEM portfolios.

He joins from Handelsbanken Asset Management in Stockholm where he was chief portfolio manager for global emerging markets.

The firm has also hired Isabelle Alexander, formerly of Pictet Asset Management, as investment manager in the GEM equities team. She undertook the same role at Pictet, where she worked for nine years.

Both new hires start this week. Lindfeldt will report to Tim Scholefield, head of equities, and Alexander will report to Lindfeldt.

Funds managed by the GEM team include the Barings Global Emerging Markets Fund. It currently has around $629.9m under management, of which just over one-third is invested in the financials sector. Asia Pacific equities account for 58% of the fund’s holdings. Its performance over the past six months is shown in the graph below.

Earlier in the year Lampl spoke to Portfolio Adviser about which country out of BRIC offered the best investment opportunities.

Former head of marketing at Barings, Ian Pascal, was today named head of marketing and communications at Hermes. He spent 11 years at Barings, leading the firm’s global marketing strategy.
