Lucas will report to Marino Valensise. The appointment is a further step in developing a comprehensive suite of income-generating products to meet Baring’s client needs, to reflect an increasing need for the asset class, the firm said. Global equity income will constitute a core pillar together with Baring’s equity, multi-asset and specialist fixed income capabilities.

“We are committed to being positioned for the future needs of our clients. Income is one area where we anticipate continued strong demand as global demographic trends and low interest rates influence the need for income across the globe,” said Ken Lambden, chief investment officer at Baring Asset Management.

Lucas joins Barings from Sarasin & Partners, where he was most recently head of equity income and a fund manager across different dividend mandates. Prior to that Lucas was a credit analyst at ABN AMRO Asset Management. He has also worked as a financial markets analyst at the Bank of England.
