Soquar will lead the investment division’s expansion of its centre of excellence, which accommodates all of the wealth manager’s client segments, and will report to chief executive Akshaya Bhargava.
The investment manager was formerly head of Barclays Wealth GI&S’s investment products and solutions arm and has 24 years’ experience in investment management.
He replaces Rory Tobin, whose July departure followed the resignation of Barclays Wealth chief executive Pete Horrell the previous month.
Soquar said: “This is an exciting time to be taking charge of GI&S – I feel honoured to lead this team.”
Bhargava added: “In Solomon we have a values driven individual, with deep investment expertise and a strategic outlook to continue to build out our investment centre of excellence.”
Barclays folded its wealth management arm into the retail unit in May as part of a strategic shake up aimed at reducing complexity, but has since seen a number of senior departures.
Head of alternatives Sarah Newman, Helen Posner, head of private equity, and Laurent Perusset, who led the Swiss investment operation, all left Barclays Wealth in June.
James Box, an equity researcher with Brewin Dolphin who specialises in the banking sector, said that the extent of departures is detrimental to the company.
He said: “It’s a people business and leadership is important – I know there has been a lot of money withdrawn from that business and a lot of people have left. I don’t think it’s helpful to the business.”
The bank’s search for a new head of GI&S investment products and solutions is ongoing.
