In the newly constituted role Hassel, who joins from Coutts where he was head of investment strategy will be responsible for the GI&S team’s investment functions and will lead its investment strategy, behavioural and quantitative finance and portfolio construction teams.

Solomon Soquar, head of GI&S, Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, said that Hassel’s 25 years of investment experience, including senior roles in banks, asset managers, hedge funds and pension funds, mean that he brings the depth of intellect, expertise and vision that the firm requires in a CIO.

“GI&S provides a significant capability within Personal and Corporate Banking, delivering ‘best in class’ investment services and innovative investment ideas to all client segments across Barclays, and I have a great deal of confidence that Arne will lead the investment team to help deliver our strategic priorities,” Soquar said.

Hassel joins the firm in November.
