Akshaya Bhargava has been appointed CEO of Barclays wealth and investment management, the firm announced on Monday.

Bhargava replaces Peter Horrell who stepped back from the firm in June and will join Barclays on 13 October.

Bhargava, who has spent 22 of his 35 years in the industry at Citibank, including a four year stint as chairman and country manager of Citibank in the Czech Republic and a position as global product management head for small business banking in London joins from hedge fund managed account platform, Infrahedge, a firm he founded in 2010 and which was acquired by State Street at the end of last year, Barclays said.

Ashok Vaswani, CEO of Barclays Personal and Corporate Banking, said: “Akshaya brings with him deep management experience and a strong track record of business development and growth.  Appointing Akshaya, with his breadth of global financial services knowledge and experience in creating bespoke investment platforms, is a significant coup for the business.”
