The new partners are Spencer Adair, investment manager in the global alpha team, Kathrin Hamilton, director in the clients department responsible for North American clients, and Graham Laybourn, director of legal and regulatory risk.

This follows the retirement of Angus McLeod, director responsible for clients in Asia and the Middle East, after 28 years at the firm.

Baillie Gifford, structured as an independent investment partnership, employs 752 people with assets under management of £85bn as at 31 December, 2012.

Andrew Telfer, joint senior partner, said: “Our focus on generating superior long-term investment results for our clients and the delivery of excellent service continues to be the bedrock of our own growth in terms of clients, staff, and partners.

“At a time of widespread pessimism about the outlook for global growth, we are finding many attractive investment opportunities around the world. The appointments of Spencer, Kathrin and Graham to the partnership will help us to continue to capitalise on these opportunities for the long term benefit of our clients.”
