Baillie Gifford North American fund manager departs

Ian Tabberer, Baillie Gifford’s co-head of North American equities and manager of its £493m American fund, has left the firm.

Tabberer had worked at the firm since 2008, having joined from Scottish Widows Investment Partnership where he ran its SWIP North American Smaller Companies Fund.

He ran Baillie Gifford American alongside co-manager Gary Robinson since June 2013.

During his tenure, the fund underperformed having delivered 24.3% versus 32.8% from the IA North America Sector average and 37.8% from the S&P 500.

Effective 1 May, the fund has been run by Robinson and the promoted Helen Xiong, who has been with Baillie Gifford since 2008.

They are assisted by Andrei Kiselev who has joined the team the firm’s Global Opportunities team.
