Aviva Investors equities boss David Cumming has resurfaced at Newton Investment Management.
Cumming (pictured) left Aviva’s asset management arm last June amid a major restructure of its equities desk in a bid to slash costs.
He will join Newton’s £2.6bn UK equity team in early March and will report to CIO of equities John Porter. There he will manage the £1.1bn BNY Mellon UK Income fund.
A press release announcing the appointment said he would use his 35 years’ experience to bring a “unique perspective” to the UK equity team. Prior to joining Aviva Investors in 2018, he was head of equities at Standard Life Investments.
Newton CEO Euan Munro said: “David is one of the UK’s most experienced and respected UK equity managers, and he brings with him significant experience in an area that is a key strategic focus for our company. I’m also very pleased that we are able to further bolster our capabilities in the UK equity sector with Georgina’s appointment.”
Alongside Cumming, Georgina Cooper is also set to join Newton’s UK equities desk as a manager on the BNY Mellon UK Equity and BNY Mellon Sustainable UK Opportunities funds. She was previously a UK fund manager at Abrdn.
Newton has also hired ex-Henderson Global Investors fixed income boss Mitesh Sheth as multi-asset CIO. Sheth will oversee Newton’s London-based multi-asset and fixed income teams, as well as its quantitative multi-asset solutions team in San Francisco. He joins from Redington, having started at the firm in 2013 as director of strategy.
