Dromer left the business following a reshape instigated by parent company Aviva, which saw its own CEO Andrew Moss hand in his notice following a shareholder revolt against executive remuneration.
Since September 2008 Abberley has been chief executive of Aviva Investors London and has "been an active member of the Aviva Investors executive Committee".
In August 2011 he took on the additional responsibility of the Global Investment Solutions division and has most recently been leading the implementation of Aviva Investors’ business review.
Between Dromer’s departure and Abberley’s appointment chairman and CFO of the firm Patrick Regan has been looking after the CEO role.
He said of Abberley’s appointment: "Paul has a strong track record in the asset management industry, and he has successfully led and grown Aviva Investors’ London business since its inception.
"He brings an in-depth understanding of Aviva Investors’ operational and investment activities to the Group Executive and his interim appointment will facilitate a smooth transition following the departure of Alain Dromer."
Despite this Abberley’s transition into a permanent CEO is far from certain, as the firm will be recruiting over the coming months with consideration of both internal and external candidates.
