Kara will look after European high yield, and have input into the firm’s global reaching High Yield Bond Fund. She has joined from Baring Asset Management, where she was a global high yield portfolio manager, having previously held analyst roles at Standard & Poor’s and HM Treasury.

Aviva has been consciously upping its capability in the high yield space, having also recently recruited Blake Huyne and Patrick Goff in Chicago as senior research analysts.

Youngberg, head of high yield investments, said: “The recent appointments of Sunita, Patrick and Blake demonstrate Aviva Investors’ continued commitment to delivering world-class solutions to our investors across the fixed income spectrum, and as demand for high yield from the investor community continues apace.”

Returns from high yield have dropped off in recent months after a strong 2012.

Elsewhere, Neuberger Berman has boosted its fixed income capability with the appointment of Jon Jonsson from JP Morgan Asset Management.
