In his role as business director, Palmer will help with the management of Ashcourt Rowan Asset Management. In particular, he will drive its transition process to a new operating platform.

Ashcourt Rowan chief executive Jonathan Polin said: “David brings more than 20 years’ experience of building and running successful investment businesses, which will be invaluable as we continue to expand our asset management offering.”

Palmer was most recently at Generali, where he was the founding chief executive of the company’s London-based portfolio management business. Before this, he was head of private clients for the investment management arm of merchant bank Rea Brothers, following an earlier stint as a stockbroker and fund manager.

“With RDR coming into force, there are tremendous opportunities for firms like Ashcourt Rowan which can demonstrate expertise across fund research, portfolio management and financial planning,” Palmer commented.

“I’m looking forward to working alongside the rest of the team as we build our business with retail clients and professional intermediaries.”

Palmer’s hire follows a number of senior appointments at Ashcourt Rowan, including Hugh Ward, former chief executive of Invesco’s UK and offshore business, as chairman and Emily Morris as group head of marketing.
