Roberts, whose full name is James McMeehan Roberts, has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry and currently holds a variety of board and committee positions.

He worked at Skandia Group for 26 years, where he set up and chaired Skandia Investment Management.

During his time there Roberts also held a number of senior positions, including finance director and group investment director.

Back in November, Ashcourt Rowan’s newly-appointed CEO, Jonathan Polin, announced an annual cost saving target of £5.2m as the firm posted a first half pre-tax loss of £1.31m.

At the time Polin said he believed the firm had the potential to become one of the leaders in UK wealth management over the next three to five years.

Subsequently he put his money where his mouth was and piled £200,000 into Ashcourt Rowan, which took his ownership up to 0.74% of the business.

Commenting on the appointment of Roberts, Kenneth West, chairman at Ashcourt Rowan, said: "Jim has been at the forefront of developments in the financial services industry for many years.

"With Jim on board we will have access to one of the best and most progressive thinkers in the industry and his experience will be of huge benefit to us."
