Svoboda will join F&C in November and moves from Vienna-based Erste Group where he has worked since 2005 initially as a fund manager, then as head of product management and latterly head of sales and marketing.
His experience is in hard and local currency fixed income fund management, mainly in emerging markets.
Previously he has worked as an analyst at Investmentbank Austria and Erste Bank and as a fund mananger with Raiffeisen KAG.
He was also formerly head of bonds Central and Eastern Europe at Generali Portfolio Management.
Jonathan Mann, head of emerging market debt at F&C, said: "This is the second key hire we have announced in recent weeks, following on from the appointment of fund manager Diliana Deltcheva.
"These appointments underline our growing commitment to continuing to grow our presence in this important asset class."
