Two more senior staffers have exited Seven Investment Management, bringing the number of people out the door this year into double digit territory.

Deputy CIO Ian Jensen-Humphreys and head of risk and fund analytics Simone Guidi are the latest to depart, Portfolio Adviser has learned.

Jensen-Humphreys joined the wealth manager from Citigroup in 2016. Initially he worked as a senior investment manager focusing on derivatives and alternatives within 7IM’s multi-asset portfolios and was co-manager on the 7IM Real Return fund.

He became interim CIO in November 2017 after Chris Darbyshire abruptly left following disagreements over the “strategic direction” of the firm. But he was ultimately replaced by Martyn Surguy, former head of investment at Credit Suisse UK, who became 7IM’s third CIO in less than a year.

Guidi has been with the firm more than eight years, joining first as an investment risk manager in 2012 before becoming head of risk and fund analytics in 2015. Prior to that he was a risk analyst for F&C.

7IM confirmed the departures and said Jensen-Humphreys and Guidi were leaving the business to explore other opportunities.

A company spokesperson thanked the pair for their “significant contribution to 7IM” describing Guidi as having “played an instrumental part in building our investment risk management function” and a “valuable member of the team” and thanking Jensen-Humphreys for stepping in as interim CIO.

7IM departures push double digits

Jensen-Humphreys and Guidi are the latest in a string of departures at the wealth manager this year.

Three of 7IM’s four remaining founders – CFO Charles Sparrow, COO Phillip Bungey and chief executive Tom Sheridan – exited in 2019. Justin Urquhart Stewart, the last founder standing, announced he would be retiring earlier this month and stepping down from his full-time position as head of corporate development to become an ambassador for the company.

A number of the departures came following “a wide strategic review” as 7IM finalised its merger with Scottish asset manager Tcam.

The DFM’s head of marketing Jane Routledge, who had been with the firm eight years, quietly left over the summer, as Chris Phillips joined as the firm’s chief client officer.

Portfolio managers Damian Barry and Simon Moore exited earlier this year, as well as head of wealth management Alexander Rentoul Montgomery.
