Amundi has unveiled a new chief investment officer for its $7bn Alternative Investments arm.

Heinrich Merz has joined from alternatives specialist Permal Investment Management Services, where he ran a number of hedge funds as well as being a member of the firm’s investment committee.

Before this he had a stints at Cambridge Associates from 2005 to 2008, having begun his career in the equity team at another hedge fund house, Concordia Advisors.

Amundi Alternative Investments offers investors its flagship open-ended alternative fund of funds, Luxembourg AIF, as well as a managed account platform registered in Ireland, dedicated portfolio mandates and an advisory service.

Pascal Blanqué, chief investment officer at Amundi comments said the appointment shows the firm’s “commitment to the expansion of its alternative business to meet investors’ demand for truly innovative, integrated and customised multi-management solutions”.
