In the London Naveen Kunam joins as senior portfolio manager and Shahzad Hasan as portfolio manager. They work alongside Oleksiy Soroka, who leads EMD credit research.
Kunam joined from ING Investment Management and will manage emerging markets rates and foreign exchange strategies. Meanwhile Hasan worked previously at Credit Suisse and will manage sovereign and volatility strategies.
In New York, Zeke Diwan joined as senior portfolio manager, and will be responsible for Latin American coverage. He previously worked at Pioneer. The firm’s HongKong office has taken Daniel Ha on board, responsible for pan-Asian strategies. He joins from Income Partners Asset Management.
Vlad Andryushchenko and Eoghan McDonagh have also joined the firm, as senior research analyst and senior trader, respectively. Andryushchenko, previously at Renaissance Capital in Moscow, will focus on global emerging markets financial institutions. McDonagh, joining from global macro hedge fund Eclectica Asset Management, will handle all EMD trading.
Despite recent volatile in markets, the firm launched the franchise last year ago on the conviction that emerging economies will expand more quickly than developed markets.
“We believe the asset class is well-placed over the longer-term to become a permanent and substantial component of investors’ portfolios,” according to CIO Greg Saichin. He joined the firm at the end of last year from Pioneer Investments.
“We believe favourable demographics, improving infrastructure, prudent macro-economic policies and high reserves mean that the emerging markets are primed for attractive and sustainable growth,” he added.
