Albermarle Street Partners chief executive Matthew Butcher has left to join a Berkshire-based wealth manager.

Butcher (pictured) has joined A&J Wealth Management as chair of its investment committee to oversee the client investment offering.

He joined Albemarle Street Partners as a director in 2015 before becoming CEO in October 2018. This followed short stints as an investment director at wealth manager Dart Capital and a director at regulatory consultancy Silver Hill. Butcher started his career as a multi-manager analyst at Blackrock before spending almost 10 years as group head of research at Brewin Dolphin.

In his new role, Butcher will work with Adam Hughes, who joined A&J as a corporate development director last July from Gresham House where he was a sales director. He previously spent 10 years as head of sales at Neptune Investment Management.

Boosts plans to grow funds and expand services

A&J has undertaken five acquisitions since it was founded in 1985 and has group funds under management of about £400m across Sipps, SSAS, Isa, general investment accounts and seven risk-rated model portfolios.

A&J founder managing director Gareth Jones set a corporate strategy 18 months ago to grow funds under management and expand its advisory and wealth management services.

Jones said: “The strengthening of our board of directors and appointment of Adam was the first part of the strategy to help achieve the growth targets for the group.

“With Matthew joining the group as head of client investment proposition, this further strengthens the team to expand our group business activities. We warmly welcome Matt to the team and I personally very much look forward to working with him.”

Butcher said: “I am pleased to be joining A&J at such an important point in our growth journey. A&J is a progressive and client-focused organisation with a growing team of exceptional people. We will seek to attract and work with the very best wealth managers who share our values and vision”

A&J’s head office is in Cookham Dean in Berkshire and it has other offices in London, Rayleigh in Essex, Great Dunmow in Essex and Newmarket in Suffolk.
