Andy Bell, chief executive of AJ Bell, said in a statement: “Mike was never more comfortable than when he was in a room full of financial advisers talking about the finer points of pension input periods or DB transfers.

“He was one of the most experienced pension commentators in the industry and I’m sure leaves many friends and acquaintances behind. Most importantly he was a husband and father and our thoughts and support are with his family at this difficult time.

“He will be sorely missed by everyone at AJ Bell.”
