Doran (pictured) will be responsible for leading AJ Bell’s investment team and developing its investment range, including the managed portfolio service and five risk-rated passive funds.

Previously, Doran was CIO at Brown Shipley where he was responsible for investment strategy and portfolio implementation. He was also group head of research and strategy at Brown Shipley’s parent company, KBL European Private Bankers.

Meanwhile, AJ Bell has also hired Matthew Brennan as a fund manager. He will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the passive funds and will work with Doran on the firm’s investment range.

Prior to this, Brennan worked with Doran at Brown Shipley, where he was senior fund manager and head of fixed income research.

Andy Bell, chief executive of AJ Bell, said: “Kevin and Matthew bring a huge amount of expertise and knowledge to the business at a time when we believe there is growing demand for straightforward, low cost investment solutions.”

Brown Shipley also recently announced a replacement CEO.
