Aegon Asset Management has appointed former Willis Towers Watson veteran Mary Kerrigan to its board as a non-executive director.

Kerrigan (pictured) will provide independent oversight, advice support and scrutiny alongside existing board members, including chairman David Watson, global chief executive Bas NieuweWeme, global chief investment officer Stephen Jones, and chief risk and compliance officer Jane Daniel.

She joined the board on 7 September, the same day the asset manager hung up its Kames Capital brand as part of its reintegration under the single global Aegon Asset Management brand.

She replaces outgoing NED Arnab Banerji who has stepped down after nine years in the role.

Aegon said Kerrigan would bring a wealth of expertise to the role, noting her 18 years at Willis Towers Watson where she advised large institutional investors on risk management, asset allocation and investment strategies

She is currently an independent director on several boards, including Just Retirement & Partnership Life Assurance, where she is also chair of the investment committee, and New Ireland Assurance, where she chairs the risk committee. She is also a member of the independent governance committee at Prudential and is a trustee at the London Irish Centre charity.

“We are very pleased to welcome Mary to the board and the expertise and enthusiasm she brings,” Watson said, commenting on her appointment. “She joins us at an exciting time for the business and I am certain she will make a valuable contribution to our continued success.

“I would also like to thank Arnab for his guidance and support over the last nine years shepherding our business from strength to strength, and wish him the best for the future,” he added.
