Advisers stuck by Lindsell Train UK Equity in its worst ever month for fund flows, according to Fundsnetwork data.

Investors pulled £374m from Nick Train’s fund in September, the largest net outflows ever suffered by the fund, according to Morningstar data published this month. The £6.9bn fund, managed by Nick Train, was among a handful of UK equity products hit by the risk-off environment, Brexit concerns and wider geopolitical concerns, Morningstar said.

But the fund was the fourth most popular with advisers on Fidelity’s Fundsnetwork platform during the same month, data published today showed.

Lindsell Train UK Equity fell 0.3% in September as growth sold off although Train has pledged to stick by his investment style. The FTSE All Share rallied 3% over the period.

Hargreaves Lansdown removed the fund and the Lindsell Train Global Equity fund from its Wealth 50 at the end of July in the aftermath of the fallout from the Woodford Equity Income suspension.

Bonds and mixed assets popular

The Vanguard Lifestrategy 60% Equity and 40% Equity funds topped sales over September followed by the Royal London Short Term Money Market Fund.

Fundsnetwork head of sales Paul Richards said it was interesting UK-focused funds continued to be bestsellers despite political uncertainty. The Franklin UK Equity Income also featured in the top-10 funds by adviser sales, while CFP SDL UK Buffettology Fund was among the most popular pension sales.

Bonds and mixed assets dominated the remainder of the league tables with the Baillie Gifford Strategic Bond fund rounding out the top-five most popular adviser fund picks.

“September was a turbulent month for investors, and as we navigate through these uncertain times, advisers are continuing to take a diversified approach in order to mitigate the risks for their clients,” Richards said.
