Abderdeen Investments’ emerging market debt veteran Brett Diment (pictured) is retiring from the group at the end of the year.

Diment has held the role of head of global emerging market debt for almost 20 years, building the firm’s EMD solutions to $20bn in AUM. He has more than three decades in investment, primarily focusing on EM debt.

Siddharth Dahiya becomes global head of emerging market debt, reporting to global fixed income head Jonathan Mondillo. Dahiya has been instrumental in building Aberdeen’s emerging market corporate debt team and manages a wide range of EM corporate and blended debt portfolios.

He joined Aberdeen in 2010 and has a total of 18 years’ experience in the industry. In addition to oversight of investments across all EMD strategies, Dahiya will retain his current portfolio management responsibilities.

The other members of the leadership team remain in place and unchanged, including Edwin Gutierrez, head of emerging market sovereign debt and Kieran Curtis, head of emerging market local currency debt

Diment said: “After a long career including 20 years as head of global emerging market debt at Aberdeen Investments, I’ve decided to retire. I’ve been privileged to work with a truly talented team, and collectively we’ve built one of the strongest emerging market debt franchises, with significant breadth and depth across the full spectrum of EMD strategies.

“Given our strong track record and the depth of experience in the team, Aberdeen is exceptionally well placed to deliver for clients and continue to grow the EMD franchise under Siddharth Dahiya’s leadership and I wish them well.”

Jonathan Mondillo, global head of fixed income, said: “Brett has had an exemplary career, and I would like to thank him for his commitment and dedication in building Aberdeen’s emerging market debt business, which today has around £15.5bn in assets under management and a very strong team. We would like to wish Brett the very best for his upcoming retirement.

“Siddharth Dahiya succeeds Brett as part of a carefully managed succession plan, having been with Aberdeen for the past 15 years, building Aberdeen’s emerging market corporate debt team. Sid has an outstanding track record and has contributed significantly to the wider EMD growth strategy.”

Dahiya added: “Aberdeen’s success in emerging market debt comes from deep research capabilities and collective decision making. This clear vision comes down to people and process, with a focus on bottom-up fundamental investing. It’s a privilege to work with and lead such an incredible team of investors, and delivering for our clients will continue to be our highest priority.”
