At Aberdeen Standard Investments, Gibbs was an investment specialist on the fixed income team.

He was also a temporary manager alongside Shayne Dunlap on the firm’s Absolute Return Government Bond fund which closed in November. The fund was inherited by Standard Life after its acquisition of Ignis Asset Management, which completed in July 2014.

Gibbs’ last day at the firm was Wednesday. On LinkedIn, he wrote: “Well, after sixteen years at Standard Life Investments, latterly Aberdeen Standard, today is my last working day for a bit.

“Excited, nervous, sad to be leaving lots of friends behind. The future may go in many different directions, and I’ll spend a few months now working that out. All suggestions welcome!”

Prior to Standard Life Investments, Gibbs began his career at the Bank of England as a dealer in 1998 and then moved on to Kuwait Investment Office to take on the role as investment manager.

In 1994, he moved to Henderson as a portfolio manager and to Standard Life in 2002.

A spokesperson at Aberdeen Standard Life said: “Jonathan’s role will be reviewed as we move through the integration process, at present nobody has been confirmed in the role.

“His departure wasn’t related to the closure of the [Absolute Return Government Bond] fund as he’d been in his current role for some time rather than managing the fund.”
