Columbia Threadneedle has hired Neptune’s head of UK equities, Jeremy Smith away from Liberum to fill the post of head of UK equity research.

According to the firm, Smith’s appointment follows the recruitment of two new analysts, Phil Macartney and Sonal Sagar.

Reporting to Leigh Harrison, Smith has been hired to lead and further develop Columbia Threadneedle’s UK research team.

Leigh Harrison, head of equities, Europe, at Columbia Threadneedle said the appointment comes at a fantastic time for the business as it has been experiencing great success across the product range.

“Active management and insight are a key part of our ability to deliver successful outcomes for our clients and Jeremy’s strong track record and extensive experience will further enhance our client proposition,” he said.

Smith, who has been in the sector for 23 years and was most recently part of Liberum’s equities sales team a position he took up in October 2013. He has also been a director in the Schroders UK large cap team – a post he held for over 14 years, from March 1992 to July 2006.

Macartney joined the firm’s UK equity team in March 2015 from Bramshott Capital, Columbia Threadneedle said, where he was a senior equity analyst, while Sagar also joined in May 2015 from Jefferies International where she was an equity research analyst. The pair have eight and nine years investment experience respectively.
