It has expanded its fixed income team with four senior appointments designed to develop its capabilities in the EMD Relative Return sector.

The appointments include a head of Latin American fixed income, James Barrineau, who joins the New York office this week. He will also be co-head of EMD Relative with Ranjeev de Mello the current head of Asian fixed income.

Three senior portfolio managers area also joining: Alec Moseley, Fernando Grisales and Chris Tackney.

Barrineau, Moseley and Grisales all join from Ice Canyon, a Californian-based global investment management firm which specialises in EM and global credit strategies.

Previously they worked together at AllianceBernstein where they shared responsibility for managing more than $15bn in EMD relative return strategies.

Tackney will join next month on the Emerging Market Corporate Bond team, reporting to Wes Sparks, head of US fixed income.

Before joining Schroders he was an Asia credit trader at Credit Suisse and held EM credit roles at both Black River Asset Management and BlackRock Advisors.

Schroders said all of the new roles would involve working with the London, Asian and Latin-American based EMD professionals in developing the EMD relative return strategies.

Karl Dasher, global head of fixed income, said: "Investors are increasingly seeking benchmark comparable fixed income strategies that take advantage of the emerging market growth story as the developed world continues to struggle with volatility and an uncertain outlook.

"We already have a well-established EMD absolute return team with a successful 15 year track record under Geoff Blanning. Growth in EMD relative return will further complement our offering in this important sector."

Schroders’ EMD Absolute Return team manages in excess of £4.5bn, as at 31 December, and its fixed income team manages over £41bn, as at 31 March.
