John Morton will be the new head of the emerging markets fixed income investment centre in Fischer Francis Trees & Watts (FFTW), which has been in strategic partnership with BNP Paribas on the fixed income side of the business since 1999.

He takes over from Guy Williams, who has been acting head of the EMD investment centre since Sergio Trigo-Paz and seven of his colleagues left to head up BlackRock’s proposition in the sector.

Morton will be based in Boston and brings with him 25 years of investment experience, with a focus on EMD since the early 1990s.

He brings with him (from Rexiter ) Mark Capstick, Daniel Wood and Lewis Jones, who will join as portfolio managers in the EMD investment centre.

The trio have worked with Morton since 2007 and will start in their new roles between the end of July and end of September, working out of the London and Boston offices.

BNP Paribas said together with the EMD portfolio managers already in London and its EM fixed income team in Singapore it has "all the talent and resources in place" to continue its successes in managing EM fixed income portfolios for its clients.

During the next few months Morton and Williams will work together on team organisation and process, although the existing investment process is similar to the one used by the new joiners, according to BNP Paribas.

"We expect the team to be fully operational by the end of September, in the meantime the interim team will continue to be involved and support the new team. Client portfolios will continue to be managed with the greatest care and fully in line with the investment objectives and all applicable investment guidelines," BNP Paribas said in a letter to clients.
