Legal & General has named private markets CEO Laura Mason (pictured, left) as the firm’s new CEO of retail.

She will take up the role in December, succeeding Bernie Hickman who will exit the firm after  26 years.

Hickman has held several leadership roles during his time at L&G, including as MD of retail protection, group financial controller, investor relations director and co-founder of L&G Home Finance and CEO of L&G Insurance, before becoming CEO of the retail division at the start of 2022.

Mason currently heads up the group’s private markets business, having been part of the founding team of its alternative assets arm. Before joining L&G, she spent eight years at Towers Watson as a consultant to UK life insurers.

Meanwhile, Katie Worgan (pictured, right) has joined from Lloyds Banking Group to take on the newly-created group chief operating officer role.

António Simões, Legal & General CEO (pictured, middle), said: “We are making rapid progress on our vision for a growing, simpler, better-connected business. Today’s leadership appointments reflect our intention to continue to move at pace to implement our strategy.

“I’d like to thank Bernie for his leadership and services to the Group over more than two decades,” Simões added, “and for his contribution over the past year as we have formulated our strategy for the future and positioned retail for growth.”
