Peter Ewins (pictured), lead manager of the £746.3m Global Smaller Companies Trust, has announced his plans for retirement in June 2024 after 26 years with the company.
Ewins, who has served as lead manager for the past 18 years, will share his position with Nish Patel beginning in January, who will serve as co-lead fund manager. Patel will take over as lead fund manager on 1 May.
Graham Oldroyd, interim chair of the trust, said: “Peter has made an important contribution in continuing the company’s strong record of delivering long-term growth in capital and income and we are confident that Nish, supported by Peter and the wider investment resource at Columbia Threadneedle Investments, will build on these achievements.
“I would like to express our warmest thanks to Peter for his commitment and contribution to the company.”
Patel joined the firm in 2008, joining Columbia Threadneedle through its acquisition of BMO GAM (Emea) in 2021.
He currently focuses on stock selection for North American and UK portfolios and also works alongside Ewins in monitoring investments throughout Asian, Latin American, and Japanese markets. In the past 18 months, Patel has also focused on the marketing of the company with Ewins.
