Gavin Launder, head of active equities and a senior fund manager at Legal & General Investment Management, has retired after 16 years at the firm.
In a Linkedin post, Launder confirmed that he left LGIM on 17 April, ending 38 years of full-time employment in the industry.
During his time at the firm, Launder managed several European and UK equity strategies, including the L&G European Unit Trust, the UK Growth Trust and UK Select Fund.
Launder joined in May 2007, having left his role as an equity analyst and portfolio manager at Bluebay Asset Management.
He also worked at UBS, Goldman Sachs International, and investment bank SG Warburg.
Portfolio Adviser approached LGIM for confirmation as to who would be replacing Launder across the various positions that he held, but did not hear back in time for publication.
In his Linkedin post, Launder said: “A truly fantastic ride, some great (and awful) experiences along the way. I have had the privilege to meet some truly amazing people, from genuinely inspirational industry leaders to some of the best capital markets operators of the day, if not ever.”
He did not irrevocably close the book on his career, adding: “It is only goodbye to my era of full-time employment and I am looking forward to seeing what comes next.
“There must be enough that I have learnt in 38 years of capital markets and equity investment that could be useful somehow, somewhere…”
The move comes after the news of LGIM’s head of retail investments, EMEA, and head of retail multi-asset funds Justin Onuekwusi’s departing to become CIO of St James’s Place.
