Newton Investment Management has tapped Ninety One’s Therese Niklasson for its new global head of sustainable investment.

Reporting to CEO Euan Munro (pictured), Niklasson will join Newton’s executive committee and be responsible for driving its strategic plan for responsible and sustainable investment globally.

She has spent the past year in a similar role at rival fund group Ninety One, where she has been for a decade, also serving as its global head of ESG for six years.

Niklasson (pictured right) joins Newton in February 2022 where she will lead a team of 19 responsible investment specialists, focusing on research, stewardship, data and product advocacy, and provide governance oversight.

She replaces Andrew Parry who is leaving to head up investments at JO Hambro Capital Management.

Munro said Niklasson’s role was “pivotal” in leading the next stage in Newton’s 40-year responsible investment journey.

“Therese’s extensive experience and proven track record in building global ESG capabilities and influencing and transforming investment teams’ approach to sustainability issues, will be instrumental in driving Newton’s vision and continued development of our sustainable investment franchise,” he said.

Niklasson’s 17-year career also includes stints at Threadneedle Investments, where she was head of governance and responsible investment, as well as Sustainability and Innovest.
